How many diets have you tried?

I am sure you have lost a lot of weight, even hundreds of pounds or kilograms in your lifetime, and.... are you any slimmer than when you started off? Probably not. I bet you are heavier now than ever before.

The reason this happens is that each time you eat less than 1200 calories per day, you train the body to adapt to starving. The body becomes less energetic, requires less energy from food and uses less energy from oxygen with which to burn the food. It slows down your metabolism, losing some lean tissue and not replacing all of it. Each and every time you diet it alters the body cumulatively. The habitual slimmer is on a downward spiral which remorselessly reduces vitality.

If you do not exercise to retain muscle and burn fat, the weight you lose will be water and muscle. When you pick up weight again, it will be mostly fat. Remember fat weighs less than muscle and is less metabolically active than muscle.

  2. Skipping meals doesn't work, it just slows down your metabolism.
  3. Eating less than 1200 calories and having a hectic schedule leaves you irritable, and difficult to cope with, for yourself and others.
